Why take this Kumamoto shore excursion?

Kumamoto offers an unforgettable blend of raw natural power, lush landscapes, refined garden art, and samurai heritage. This excursion brings you face-to-face with:

Mount Aso / Nakadake Crater (阿蘇中嶽火山口) — One of the world’s largest active volcanic calderas. Stand at the rim, feel heat from fumaroles, and take in the vast panoramic view of this geological wonder.

Kusasenri Plain (草千里) — A broad grassy plateau set inside the Aso caldera, known for its pastoral beauty, grazing horses, and sweeping vistas stretching toward distant peaks.

Suizenji Jojuen Garden (水前寺成趣園) — A classic daimyō (feudal lord) stroll garden, modeled after the 53 stations of the old Tōkaidō — miniature mountains, ponds, bridges, and seasonal blooms evoke old Kyoto in miniature form.

Kumamoto Castle (熊本城) — A fortress of strong walls and elegant towers, once one of Japan’s finest, embodying samurai era design and resilience (especially poignant after its partial restoration following recent quakes).

This shore excursion gives you access to both elemental nature and refined culture — a contrast that defines Kumamoto. You’ll experience volcanic drama, pastoral serenity, garden artistry, and castle grandeur — all in one immersive day ashore.
