Sample Itinerary: Naha Shore Excursion
Discover Naha’s soul through its wartime memorials, Ryukyu royal legacy, and vibrant city streets.
00 – Pickup at Naha Cruise Terminal Meet your English-speaking guide and private driver at the port. Begin your day with scenic views of Naha’s coastal cityscape as you drive toward the island’s southern hills.
30 – 10:30 – Navy Underground Headquarters Park (海軍壕公園) Descend into the preserved wartime tunnels once used by the Japanese Navy during the Battle of Okinawa. These underground command posts now serve as a powerful reminder of peace and the human cost of war. Exhibits and corridors carved into the limestone reveal stories of endurance and hope amid tragedy.
45 – 11:15 – Navy Memorial Tower (海軍慰靈塔) Continue to this nearby memorial dedicated to those who lost their lives in the battle. Surrounded by quiet gardens overlooking the city, the site provides a moment for reflection and appreciation of Okinawa’s journey from devastation to peace.
45 – 13:00 – Shurijo Castle Park (首里城公園) Once the political and cultural heart of the Ryukyu Kingdom, this UNESCO World Heritage site showcases Okinawa’s distinct architecture — vivid red palace walls, decorative dragons, and Chinese-influenced gates. Although parts were damaged by the 2019 fire, ongoing restoration brings the castle back to life. From the upper terraces, enjoy sweeping views over Naha and the East China Sea.
15 – 14:15 – Lunch Savor Okinawan cuisine such as goya champuru (bitter melon stir-fry), Okinawa soba noodles, or rafute (braised pork belly). Your guide can recommend a local restaurant highlighting island specialties and tropical fruits.
30 – 16:00 – Kokusai-dori Street (國際通大街) End your day on Naha’s bustling main avenue, filled with markets, souvenir shops, and food stalls. Try pineapple cakes, chinsuko cookies, or awamori, the local rice spirit. Street musicians and colorful storefronts make this the perfect place to soak in Okinawa’s cheerful, friendly energy before returning to port.
00 – Return to Naha Cruise Terminal Relax on your short drive back to the pier, reflecting on a day that captured Okinawa’s resilience, culture, and tropical charm.
